Hello,
My wife, brother, and sister-in-law returned home to Guardamar Del Segura yesterday from attending the concerts in Albir and Teulada. I cannot find words to tell you how much we enjoyed the experiences. Thursday in the Iglesia del Espíritu Santu, Albir was itself memorable. Not only was the concert everything we had hoped for, but I also got to meet up with choir member Jeff Young. We were colleagues in the Steel Company of Wales Tinplate Division in the 1960s. Saturday – in the Teulada Auditorio – was truly an experience we will never forget and never tire of recalling. Not only was the concert hall full, but it seemed that every fellow-Welsh-expat in the Costa Blanca was there; even including Welsh dragons and rugby jerseys. We even spoke to people from the same Cardiff district in which I was born and went to school.
The singing at both events was absolutely magnificent. The Saturday concert, with a full auditorium, was a truly overwhelming musical and emotional experience. The finale of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau performed with the Costa Blanca choir, with the audience invited by the conductor to join in was magical. It was as if we had been transported back to Cardiff Arms Park/Millennium/Principality Stadium for the singing of the National Anthem before beating England. I wonder what it sounded like from the stage. Where we were in the 5th row it was thrilling. I don’t mind admitting I found it impossible to prevent the tears of joy; and I was most certainly not alone in that. There didn’t seem to be a dry eye in the place. My wife was born in Lisbon, and lived in America for over 30 years. She had never been in Wales before we met, and the first time she heard the Anthem was at a Six Nations International at the Millennium Stadium years ago. She now knows nearly all the lyrics and is thrilled to sing them – albeit with something of an American/Portuguese accent. On Saturday she was as tearful as me and all those around us in the audience. What a thrill it was also for my brother, who was a member of Cor Meibion Llanfair Caereinion before retiring to Costa Blanca, when on the way out of the auditorium a choir member made a point of commending him for his contribution to the audience singing of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. He had been able to pick out and identify my brother’s voice.

The two concerts were wonderful musical experiences. Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi pawb. Please return soon.

P.S.
What a terrific surprise to find that there is a YouTube video of the Thursday concert, and another one of part of a rehearsal for it.

Hi,
My wife and I brought two friends visiting from the UK to last night's concert at Teulada.
They were delighted with the presentation; a most impressive performance by all on stage.
Many Thanks.

Tonight at Teulada in the Costa Blanca region of Spain my partner (a Scot) and myself (English) attended our first male voice choir concert. What an absolute joy it was to see and listen to your choir. The quality of the singing and the obvious passion shown was outstanding. Thank you for making it so memorable

Well I turned up and I recorded the Concert last night at Albir, and all i can say is DUW DUW bois bach there's fine you are boios. It is now coming up to 2 am i am sitting here stunned with how well the Sony camera I use , which looks nothing special, but I think you will all be amazed how fantastic the sound is, (stereo) and the quality of image, too considering there was no extra lighting. My congratulations to you all, that was a night to remember for the rest of my life, I wept twice by the way, I will be uploading the video to You tube, would love to send you the videos to your page here, someone asked me to do that, I have no idea yet how I can achieve that? but I will try, Maybe you can tell me if your face book wall allows videos to be uploaded directly there, I do hope so... you did yourselves and Wales proud tonight, I think I too have done my part, I humbly hope you enjoy the videos and display them at least one of them on your website... that would be nice bought the CD for 10 Euros, the chappie did me a favor, as i needed it just in case I had a sound issue, but to my relief its stunning as it is, Thank you for a lovely Boys evening, you helped an old guy get rid of so much Hiraeth tonight, when you see Arwell the Hairdresser in the Bont , give Arwel my love and regard he's my wonderful cousin. Christmas greetings to you all. So pleased to read you will perform at Lincoln Cathedral and wow them with your wonderful Welsh timbre.
Approaching 70, I first heard the choir rehearse when I was 19 and my Granny Thomas's cousin Katie Johns took me. Later Gwenyth Farthing who was friends with your last long standing director drove me down from Barry.
Last had the pleasure when you all visited New York and my relative by marriage Raymond was still with you. During that trip we realized that the publicity through union contacts was inadequate to reach the audience of which you are worthy.
I so enjoyed our bus tour around nyc and then Phantom Broadway show together during which I got to know some of your members better. I am still a retired lawyer in New Jersey with contacts around the US so if you do plan another tour, especially along the US West Coast, please contact me to assist in planning. The pleasure of your music has been a big part of the happy memories of my life.
In the past few years, as you can see by Googling my full name, I have been tracking down my Dutch heritage, even to the extent of having a TV show Man bijt Hond. However, that was ancestry and my connection to the choir is more personal. My grandmother Thomas's brother William was a tenor and I have some 78 rpm records of the choir to enjoy! All best and hanks for he memories

I don’t normally comment on concerts but I must say this was one that has to be praised.
Being a lover of Musical instruments such as the Violin I have been to concerts with Andrea Bocelli who commanded the audience throughout but tonight Jody Smith such a young talented player won me over. Her programme was vibrant and thrilling and had me in a trance throughout listening to her playing. Her accompanist Rachel Ramos deserved all credit accompanying her with such tender feeling that you felt she was in a trance playing the piano.
The Tenor Joshua Mills totally surprised everyone with such a beautiful voice and enthusiasm that you just could listen to all night. Rachel Ramos accompanied him with the same tender sensitivity in her play, as she did for Ros Evans a superb soprano and very entertaining to the audience.
I have attended many concerts at the Brangwyn with local choirs but this was the first time I have been to the Pontardulais Male Voice concert and must say they know how to entertain. Their varied programme delighted myself and the audience. What I really liked was the straight forward get on and sing style, no boring speeches that nobody wants to listen to, I paid good money to hear good music and that is what I got. Well done !
Excellent concert very well organised and the singing in the bar following the concert was such an added bonus I would have paid just to hear that.
People say you haven’t heard a male voice until you’ve heard the Pontarddulais and now I can see why.
Consider me a new Fan.

My wife and I lived in the Swansea area in 1976 and 1977 when I was assigned to the Alcoa GB construction project in Waunarlwydd. During our stay in South Wales we were fortunate in that we became friends with Roger Kenyon, a choir member, and were able to attend a few rehearsals and a concert. After our South Wales assignment, we returned to the United States.

We are now returning for a vacation in the UK and will be in the Swansea area from July 14th through the 18th. We would very much like to reconnect with our friend Roger and we hope that the Roger Kenyon on your current member list is the same person that we knew these many years ago. We also hope he will send us a note at mrshse@comcast.net so we can arrange to meet in July.

We're very happy to see that the choir is still performing and doing very well. There is nothing like it at all in the US.

Respectfully,

Russ & Mary Yester

The Annual Concert was, yet again, an excellent evening of fine singing and music. The choir was up to its usual very high standard, displayed in a variety of Welsh, English, and Italian songs.
The performances of the three guest artistes were outstanding. The duet from the Pearl Fishers, sung by Anthony Michaels-Moore and Trystan Llyr Griffiths, was one of the best I have heard. And the superb young cellist, Saran Davies, playing was captivating.
The standing ovation at the end of the concert showed how the audience felt about all the performances.
Already looking forward to the 2016 Annual. Llongyfarchiadau.

I also find the earlier post strange. The local authority of Swansea according to the last census shows only 11.4% of the people speak Welsh and Pontarddulais itself only 40% ,so I felt the balance of Welsh language songs to be more than fair

Dear Pontarddulais Male Choir -

Last week (June 24) while touring Wales, my mother and I had the honor and privilege to sit in on your rehearsal with our tour guide, Charlotte. It was spectacular! We can't thank you enough for that experience. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Thank you! Listening to your beautiful voices brought an old family saying to life....''To be born Welsh is to be born privileged. Not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but music in your blood and poetry in your soul.''

We had an amazing mother/daughter trip, exploring the country of our ancestors and meeting such wonderful people. We look forward to following your choir through your website and hearing you perform in person when you are next in the US.

Thank you, again, for allowing us the opportunity to hear you in person during rehearsal last week.

Best wishes,

Attended our first concert with the choir at the Brangwyn having seen them previously at Tabernacle, Morriston.
We were amazed by the difference in sound the Brangwyn has to offer the acoustics were fantastic with the Orchestra. I don't think the microphones did the Three Tenors any justice could have done without them but the soloist within the choir had a superb controlled voice. I loved the 76 Trombones song it really went well with the Orchestra.
Well done to the choir it was a fantastic concert . Looking forward to the Christmas one in December with the Salvation Army .

At the Townswomen's AGM in Cardiff on 18th June I was appalled and insulted by your comments regarding the English who, you said, had no songs and therefore were not included in the Rugby Medley. I was also particularly offended by your ''joke'' about speaking to God in Welsh. It seems you can insult the English with impunity but are up in arms if it happens the other way round. I have written to the TG to express my anger.

Hello Pontarddulais Choir.
Loved your Kingston Ontario concert. As my brother says, it was a “bucketload of fun”. And the afterglow party in the Irish pub was one for the ages. Special hello to my new friends Les and Peter—may you sing here again and soon. You might be interested in www.facebook.com/kingston.tirnanog. Scroll down to the September 15 video that starts with a fellow saying “D’oh”! I can make out Les and Peter, if I squint hard enough, sitting talking to me and my sister in law against the far wall, towards the end of the segment.
Iechyd da!
John

Hello to all of you. Conductor, pianist and choir members, you gave a wonderful performance last night and I was literally moved to tears, the kind when you are so happy you cry. I went to the concert with eight friends and they all loved the performance. One of my friends is a Welsh. speaking lady from Swansea. For both of us the singing of ''Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau'' was so moving and we cried through our tears. I am originally from Porth, in the Rhondda Valley and although ( sadly not a Welsh speaker) I have lived in Canada for 50 years, there will always be a part of Wales in my heart, even my children have Welsh names, Bethan and Trefor. Before I finish ,special praise must be sent to the brilliant pianist David Last. He is a national treasure and deserves much praise. Thank you all again, and by the way I did buy
two C.D's !!!!!!!!

Thanks again,

What a wonderful performance you gave us in Kingston last Wednesday, truly an evening to remember, thank you so much for sharing the talents of the choir with us.
The evening brought back very pleasant memories of your 1971(?) visit to Kingston, and also allowed us to renew a number of old friendships from that period--having moved out of the Kingston area, some twenty plus years ago---so thank you for being the catalyst in making this such a memorable evening.
A bonus to the evening, was the following morning;when we had the pleasure of having breakfast with some members of the choir--which is where we got this contact information.
If things go according to plan we hope to visit family in Wales next year, and if it is possible maybe we would be able to attend one of your rehearsals evenings?
In the meantime, wish 'The Choir' every success ------travel safely and best wishes!
Glyn and Shirley Nelmes.

Nancy & I, along with 2 other friends, attended your Kingston Concert on September 4th. St. George's Cathedral was filled with your beautiful sound. I'd close my eyes and just drift away. It's hard to imagine what the full choir sound would be like. We all really enjoyed chatting & singing along with you at the pub afterwards. Just a brilliant night and a lifelong memory. The four of us can talk about nothing else when we get together. Can't wait to see you again!!

Really enjoyed the Ottawa concert at the church and the after concert at the pubs. Great memories and so nice to have you all do a great job as ambassadors for Wales. Thanks so much for singing Sosban Fach at the pub, i'v been away from Llanelli for 17 years but you can't take the Welsh out of the boy. I would love to get a copy of the poem that Clive read at Ottawa. :)

At your performance in Ottawa on September 7, 2013, I was amazed at the clarity of your diction; it made me feel as though I could learn Welsh just from listening to you sing. To be able to enjoy not just the music but the lyrics is a special treat coming from more than fifty mouths singing in sync (unless, of course, you choose not be in sync which you also do to great artistic effect).
I am grateful that our resident Welsh chorister in Renfrew organized a bus to take some 30 town residents to the City View United Church. The acoustics of the venue highlighted the clarity of your sound; a great choice.
With your CD’s, I can now bring back memories of your memorable concert.
Mais la prochaine fois, pourriez-vous nous faire la grâce d’une pičce ou deux en français?

My wife, my parents and I all loved your performance last night in Ottawa.

Your sound is transcendent. It made me want to fly to Wales just so I can hear you sing at your home.

I'm grateful to all of you for amount of work you must put into working together so well and taking the time out of your lives and the expense to bring your music to us here.

We lived in the Bont until I was 13 yrs then we emigrated to Canada. We (Dad Ernie, Mum Margaret and sister Sian) lived next door to Bryn and Maureen Jenkns, Dad worked with Tommy Coles and was friends with many choir members. We heard a rumour that he choir may be coming to Toronto in September?? If so will there be any other places with a stop planned? Really looking forward to seeing you all.

Just come home fro a superb concert with the bont Male choir. The Artists Elin Manahan and Robert Davies were brilliant as was the Gwyr School Choir. Such dicipline in their singing.
Mr Fewster and Clive Phillips were brilliant on the Piano as was the young lady. One to watch in the future I think.

Fantastic concert and good on you doing this all for a worthy Charity. 'Maggies'
Well Done looking forward to more concerts.
